Hans Heiling

Opera by Heinrich Marschner (libretto by E Devrient, originally written for Mendelssohn), first produced at the Berlin Opera, Germany, on 24 May 1833. It tells of the gnome Heiling who gives up his supernatural powers to live above ground with the peasant girl Anna; he returns to the caves after losing her affections.
