Hapgood, Isabel Florence (1850–1928)

US translator. She spent ten years learning every Germanic and Romance language before starting her career in 1886 as a translator, essayist, and reviewer. Her output was voluminous and covered many translations of Russian masterpieces, including 16 volumes of Turgenev's novels and stories (1905). Hapgood was born in Boston, Massachusetts
