    0.04 sec.

Happy Valley–Goose Bay

Town in south-central Labrador; population (1991) 8,600. It is situated on Goose Bay at the head of Lake Melville (Hamilton Inlet) and the mouth of the Churchill River. Goose Bay developed as a huge military airfield and seaplane base for the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Today the base is used primarily to train fighter pilots.

Happy Valley was established as a residential community, and amalgamated with Goose Bay in 1974. The town is a fishing and tourist centre with steamer connections with St John's, Newfoundland. It serves as a distribution centre for Labrador coastal communities, and houses regional government offices.
