Goose Bay
| Settlement on the Labrador coast of Newfoundland, Canada, on the Hamilton Inlet at the head of Lake Melville. In World War II it was used as as the main base (completed in 1942) of the Atlantic Ferry Command, for US and Canadian troops on their way to Europe. There is a NATO military base here, operated by the US Air Force, where jet pilots are trained in low-level flying. |
| The base is built on land claimed by the indigenous Innu (or Montagnais-Naskapi) people, who regard themselves as a sovereign nation. |
