Harcourt, William George Granville Venables Vernon (1827-1904)

British Liberal politician. He was home secretary under William Gladstone 1880-85, chancellor of the Exchequer 1886 and 1892-95, and leader of the Liberal Party in the House of Commons 1894-98.

He was born in York and educated at Cambridge. In 1868 he entered Parliament as a Liberal.
