Hardy, Robert

Hardy, Robert (1925– )

English actor. He starred in the long-running television series All Creatures Great and Small (1978–90), and played Winston Churchill in Winston Churchill – The Wilderness Years (1981), The Woman He Loved (1988), War and Remembrance (1989), and Bomber Harris (1989). His films include The Spy Who Came in From the Cold (1965), 10 Rillington Place (1970), and Sense and Sensibility (1995).

Hardy was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and began his career with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He first appeared on television in The Spread of the Eagle (1963); other work in the medium includes Elizabeth R (1971), Edward the Seventh (1975), and Middlemarch (1994).
