Harford County

Administrative district of northeastern Maryland; area 1,160 sq km/448 sq mi, population (1990) 182,100. It is bounded to the north by Pennsylvania, northeast by the Susquehanna River, and south and southeast by Chesapeake Bay. Its seat is at Belair.

The Piedmont agricultural region in the north of Harford County produces vegetables, fruits, grains, poultry, and dairy goods; Bel Air is its market centre. Its southern section, on the coastal plain, has federal reservations including the Aberdeen Proving Ground and Edgewood Arsenal. Light industry, centred in Aberdeen, is diverse.
