Clurman, Harold Edgar (1901–1980)

US theatre director and critic. He helped found the independent Group Theatre in 1931 (other members were Lee Strasberg and Elia Kazan), and directed plays by Clifford Odets (Awake and Sing 1935) and William Saroyan. He wrote theatre criticism for the New Republic 1948–52 and the Nation from 1953.
