Pleasant Hill, near Harrodsburg in central Kentucky, is a Shaker community founded in the early 19th century. The village has been restored and visitors may stay in some of the buildings where traditional Shaker crafts are demonstrated.

City and seat of Mercer County, in central Kentucky, 48 km/30 mi southwest of Lexington, near the Salt River; population (1990) 7,300. Founded in 1774, it is the oldest settlement in Kentucky and was the first English settler town to be established west of the Allegheny Mountains.

Harrodsburg was built on the Wilderness Road by a group of pioneers under the leadership of James Harrod. A replica of its fort (built in 1775) is in Old Fort Harrod State Park. The town contains many fine restored buildings from several periods. It is a market hub for an agricultural area, and a noted crafts and tourist centre. Nearby are mineral springs and a restored Shaker town from the early 19th century, Pleasant Hill.
