Hart, Moss

Hart, Moss (1904–1961)

US dramatist. He collaborated with such major figures as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, and Ira Gershwin. Among Hart's most famous works are The Man Who Came to Dinner 1939 and the films Gentlemen's Agreement 1947 and A Star is Born 1954.

Hart, born in New York City, had his first play produced in 1922.

After working for an independent producer and at Catskill resorts in New York State, he gained Broadway success with Once in a Lifetime, 1930 co-written with George S Kaufman. Late in his career he became one of Broadway's most successful directors. His autobiography, Act One, appeared 1959.
