Hartford County

Administrative district in north-central Connecticut; area 1,914 sq km/739 sq mi, population (1990) 851,800. Hartford County lies on the Massachusetts border, and is bisected by the Connecticut River.

Hartford County is dominated by Hartford, the state capital and its commercial and financial centre. Outside of the city can be found a number of corporate installations, residential suburbs, and manufacturing centres (including Bristol and New Britain), as well as some areas that have retained their rural character.
