Hartmann, Karl Robert Eduard von (1842-1906)

German philosopher. His teaching combines the metaphysics of Hegel, Schopenhauer, and Schelling, with the Unconscious playing the role of creator and of providence in his theory. His first book, The Philosophy of the Unconscious ,appeared in 1869, and met with great success. Hartmann was born in Berlin, Germany.
