Hartt, C(harles) Fred(erick)

Hartt, C(harles) Fred(erick) (1840-1878)

Canadian geologist and palaeontologist. He was an early explorer and collector in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the early 1860s. He led several expeditions to Brazil (1865-66, 1867, 1870) and was director of Brazil's Geological Survey (1875-78). He was the author of The Geology of Brazil (1870). He taught at Cornell University (1868-78). Hartt was born in Frederickton, New Brunswick, Canada. He died of yellow fever in Brazil.
