Hartt, C(harles) Fred(erick) (1840–1878)

Canadian geologist and palaeontologist. He was an early explorer and collector in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the early 1860s. He led several expeditions to Brazil (1865–66, 1867, 1870) and was director of Brazil's Geological Survey (1875–78). He was the author of The Geology of Brazil (1870). He taught at Cornell University (1868–78). Hartt was born in Frederickton, New Brunswick, Canada. He died of yellow fever in Brazil.
