Harwood, Basil (1859–1949)

English organist and composer. He was educated at Charterhouse and Oxford, and studied music at Bristol, Oxford, and the Leipzig Conservatory. He was organist first in London, then at Ely Cathedral, 1887–92, and at Christ Church, Oxford, 1892–1909, and choragus of the university.

Works

psalms and motets with orchestra; services, anthems and other church music; Ode on a May Morning (Milton) for chorus and orchestra (1913), cantata Love Incarnate; organ concerto with orchestra; organ works.
