Hat Yai

City in Songkhla province, southwest Thailand; population (2000 est) 185,600. Sited on the Bangkok–Singapore railway, Hat Yai is a busy commercial and railway centre, and is the administrative centre for Thailand's southern region. It has an important rubber research institute. Production of rubber is the main industry, but cotton and silk production are also important. The city lies on the U Taphao River in a part of the Malay Peninsula which has rich tin resources.

In the domestic market, the price of natural rubber at the central market in Hat Yai, Thailand, rose from 45 baht per kilogram at the beginning of the year to a record high of more than 70 baht in July.
The five airports under AOT are Bangkok International Airport, Chiang Mai International Airport, Hat Yai International Airport, Phuket International Airport and Chiang Rai International Airport.
The airline flies to 13 destinations from Bangkok including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son and Phitsanulok in the north, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani in the northeast and Hat Yai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Phuket and Surat Thani in the south.
