Hauptmann, Cornelius (1951- )

German bass. He studied in Berne and with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and sang at the Stuttgart Opera from 1981, and at Heidelberg from 1985, as Masetto, King Philip, and Osmin. He appeared at Karlssruhe from 1987, as Sarastro, and Mozart's Figaro. He sang in the first performance of Henze's English Cat (at Schwetzingen in 1983) and has appeared in John Eliot Gardiner's Mozart opera series in London (which was also recorded) and the St Matthew Passion.
