Hawley, Christine

    0.06 sec.

Hawley, Christine (1949– )

English architect. With her business partner, Peter Cook (1936–msp), she was a member of Archigram (1960–75), a London-based group of architects motivated by the possibilities of ‘high technology’ and ‘dense urban design’. Their work, which reflects this ethos, includes the Stained Glass Museum, Hesse (1989), exhibition pavilions in Nagoya, Japan (1989) and Osaka, Japan (1990), and apartments and shops for the Internationale Bau Ausstellung, Berlin (1984–90).

Hawley was born in Shrewsbury. She trained at the Architectural Association, London 1969–75, and registered as an architect in 1978. In 1988 she was appointed head of the Department of Architecture at the Polytechnic of East London.
