Hauran| District straddling the Jordan–Syria border. The Hauran consists of mountain ranges and black basalt plains, with scattered peaks rising steeply from the Jordan valley to a height of about 610 m/2,000 ft. An agriculturally marginal area, the Hauran is inhabited only by Bedouin and a few settlements of Druze. |
| The Hauran has numerous caves, and is full of the remains of Bronze Age settlements and various monuments of the Greek and Roman periods. |
