Hayden, Melissa (1923–2006)

Canadian ballet dancer. After training in Toronto and New York, she joined the American Ballet Theatre in 1945 and then the New York City Ballet in 1950, performing leading roles until her retirement (1973). She frequently performed with US dancer Jacques d'Amboise and is known for her roles in Russian-born US choreographer George Balanchine's productions.

Hayden was born in Toronto, Canada. After retiring from the New York City Ballet, she taught ballet in Seattle, New York, and North Carolina.
