Haydon, Benjamin Robert (1786-1846)

English painter. His attempts at the ‘grand style’ include many gigantic canvases, such as Christ's Entry into Jerusalem (1820; Philadelphia, USA); he is better known for his genre pictures, such as The Mock Election and Chairing the Member. He painted portraits of the poets Wordsworth and Keats.
