Haym, Nicola Francesco (1678-1729)

Italian cellist, librettist, and composer of German descent. He went to London, England, in 1702, and with François Dieupart and Thomas Clayton was active in establishing Italian opera there. From 1713 he wrote several libretti for Handel, including Teseo, Radamisto, Giulio Cesare, and Rodelinda; he also wrote for Giovanni Bononcini and Attilio Ariosti. His own works include a Latin oratorio and a serenata, anthem The Lord is King, and two sets of trio sonatas.
