Hazlehurst

City and seat of Copiah County, in southwestern Mississippi, 48 km/30 mi south-southwest of Jackson; population (1990) 4,200. Founded in 1857, it lies in a region of farming and forestry, for which it is a market centre. The city is situated on both Interstate 55 and Amtrak's Memphis–New Orleans railway line.
