Head, Michael

Head, Michael (Dewar) (1900–1976)

English singer, pianist, and composer. He gave up the study of mechanical engineering for music, which he studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, including composition under Corder. In 1927 he became piano professor there. He gave many song recitals and broadcasts, playing his own accompaniments, and toured widely in the Commonwealth.

tone poem and scherzo for orchestra; Jabberwocky (Lewis Carroll) for chorus; piano concerto; c. 60 songs including cycles Songs of the Countryside (W H Davies), Over the Rim of the Moon, part-songs.
