Healdsburg

City in Sonoma County, northwestern California; population (1990) 9,500. Healdsburg stands on the Russian River, 23 km/14 mi northwest of Santa Rosa and 100 km/62 mi north-northwest of San Francisco.

Established in 1852, Healdsburg has long been the centre of a fruit-growing area (producing apples, prunes, pears, and peaches), and now forms the hub of the Russian River wine industry. It is also noted for its pottery and as a resort.
