Jackson, Helen Hunt (1830–1885)

US writer. Her works include two books championing the cause of American Indians, A Century of Dishonor 1881 and Ramona 1884. Another of her novels, Mercy Philbrick's Choice 1876, is said to be based on the character of the poet Emily Dickinson.

Helen Hunt Jackson, famous for her novel Ramona, is less well known for the extensive writing she did to champion the cause of the Native Americans who, in her view, were being badly mistreated by the US Government.
It came from Helen Hunt Jackson, A Century of Dishonor (1881).
