Hendersonville

City and seat of Henderson County, southwestern North Carolina; population (1990) 7,300. Hendersonville lies in the Blue Ridge Mountains, 32 km/20 mi south-southeast of Asheville.

A resort and retirement community in an agricultural area noted for its apples, Hendersonville is surrounded by small lakes and streams. It has a variety of light industries. Flat Rock, which is situated 5 km/3 mi south-southeast, is another resort community, renowned for its theatre and as the home (1945–67) of the poet Carl Sandburg.

City in Sumner County, north-central Tennessee; population (2000) 40,600. Hendersonville is a growing, largely residential suburb 21 km/13 mi northeast of downtown Nashville, on Old Hickory Lake (the Cumberland River).
