Henrici, Christian Friedrich (known as Picander) (1700-1764)

German poet and cantata librettist. From 1726 he was involved in a collaboration with Johann Sebastian Bach, which resulted in the texts for the St Matthew Passion, St Mark Passion, and part of the Christmas Oratorio. He also furnished libretti for many of Bach's occasional vocal works and some of the church cantatas.

After study in Wittenberg he moved to Leipzig in 1720. He was well known as a playwright and published five volumes of poems, under the title Ernst schertzhafte und satyrische Gedichte.
