Heraclidae

In Greek mythology, the descendants of Heracles.

Zeus had intended Heracles to rule over the empire of Perseus, but, by a trick of Hera, he was supplanted by Eurystheus. After the death of Heracles the Heraclidae asserted their claims, and, led by Hyllus, son of Deianira, invaded the Peloponnese. They finally conquered Argos, Messenia, and Sparta, and established themselves there. The legend is an echo of the Dorian invasions of the 11th century BC.
