Herbert, Robert Louis

Herbert, Robert Louis (1929– )

US art historian. He worked in a variety of museums in Europe and the USA, arranging exhibitions and producing catalogues. He also taught at Yale University (1954–68), his specialty being 19th- and 20th-century French art. Herbert was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. He studied at Wesleyan University and Yale, where he gained his PhD in 1957, and on fellowships in England, Paris, and New Haven, Connecticut.
