He published Description of the Persian Monarchy 1634, reprinted as Some Yeares Travels into divers parts of Asia and Afrique 1638, and Threnodia Carolina (reminiscences of the captivity of Charles I), reprinted as Memoirs of the Last Two Years of the Reign 1702 and 1813. Baronet 1660. |
| He was born in York. In 1628 he went to Persia. When the English Civil War broke out he took the side of Parliament, but was appointed groom to the King's Bedchamber 1646; he eventually became the king's sole attendant and accompanied him to the scaffold. |
