Hercules beetle

Largest beetle in the world: males measure up to 17 cm/6.6 in in length; females are smaller. Hercules beetles are found mainly in the tropical and subtropical regions.

They are black, nocturnal, and exhibit extreme forms of sexual dimorphism (marked visual differences between males and females). Males have a dark-coloured, slender, curved horn of up to 10 mm/3.9 in long, on their heads.

Hercules beetles Dynastes hercules belong to the subfamily Dynastinae, family Scarabaeidae, order Coleoptera, class Insecta, phylum Arthropoda.
