Herford

City in the Land (administrative region) of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on the rivers Werre and Aa, 15 km/9 mi north of Bielefeld; population (1994) 248,300. Furniture, carpets, and metal goods are manufactured here. Herford was once a member of the Hanseatic League medieval trade federation.

A college of music is situated in the town.
