Herisau

Commune and capital of the Appenzell Ausser-Rhoden demi-canton in Switzerland, 10 km/6 mi southwest of St Gallen; population (2000) 15,900. Herisau has an old belltower and town hall. Cotton goods and embroidery are produced here.
