Hermaphroditus

In Greek mythology, the son of Hermes, messenger of the gods, and Aphrodite, goddess of love. He was loved by the nymph of the fountain at Salmacis, Caria (now southern Turkey), who saw him bathing in the waters and prayed for their eternal union. They became one body with dual sexual characteristics, hence the term hermaphrodite.
