| Hermetic Philosophy was an ancient Egyptian form of wisdom that taught the novel concept that it was the mind that shaped reality. 1588-1658) was a physician, a Paracelsian, and the author of a treatise on the plague and several works of alchemy, spagyric medicine, and Hermetic philosophy. Among the various subjects of which he manages to present elegant, concise, and illuminating accounts are "natural" language theory, Pythagorean number symbolism, medieval ritual magic, Roger Bacon's and al-Kindi's theories of celestial influences, Jewish and Christian kabbalah, Florentine and Hellenic Neoplatonism, alchemy, and hermetic philosophy. |
