Hermosa Beach

City in Los Angeles County, southwestern California; population (1990) 18,200. It lies in South Bay, on the Pacific Ocean, 19 km/12 mi southwest of downtown Los Angeles. Its 3 km/2 mi of sandy beach are popular with swimmers, surfers, and fishermen, and jazz and rock clubs also attract visitors. The city has some light manufactures.
