Cortez| City in the southwestern corner of Colorado, USA, 64 km/40 mi west of Durango; seat of Montezuma County; population (2000) 8,000. Major industries are oil and tourism, although Cortez is also a trade centre in a livestock, fruit, grain, dairying, and timber region. Other industries include metal, food, and animal feed processing and the manufacture of plywood, leather goods, furniture, and industrial gases. |
