Hernried, Robert (1883–1951)

Austrian-born US scholar and composer. He studied in Vienna, and after a career as an opera conductor 1908–14 he held various teaching posts and professorships in Germany and the USA, where he emigrated in 1934. In 1946 he was appointed professor at Detroit University. He wrote several books and over 300 articles.

Works

the operas Francesca da Rimini (after Dante) and The Peasant Woman; Mass; over 60 choral works; concert overture for orchestra; chamber music and songs.
