Hervé (1825–1892)

French composer. He studied music as a choirboy, then with Antoine Elwart and Daniel Auber. He was organist at various Paris churches, including Saint-Eustache, and later theatre manager, operetta singer, librettist, and conductor.

more than 80 operettas, including Don Quixote et Sancho Pança (after Cervantes, 1848), Le Hussard persécuté, La Fanfare de Saint-Cloud, Les Chevaliers de la table ronde (1866), L'Œil crevé, Chilpéric, Le Petit Faust, Les Turcs (parody of Racine's Bajazet, 1869), La Belle Poule, Le Nouvel Aladin, and Frivoli (1886).

Other

symphony The Ashanti War for solo voices and orchestra (1874); many light songs.
