Herz, Henri (Heinrich) (1803–1888)

Austrian pianist and composer. A pupil of his father and of Hünten, he entered the Paris Conservatory in 1816 and settled there, becoming a fashionable teacher. He was appointed piano professor at the Conservatory in 1842. He toured the USA, Mexico, and the West Indies 1845–51, making a fortune with which he manufactured pianos and built a concert hall.

Works

eight piano concertos and some 200 works for piano solo: variations, studies, fantasies.
