Hessenberg, Kurt (1908–1994)

German composer. He studied with Günther Raphael at Leipzig and then taught composition there. In 1933 he became professor of composition at the Hoch Conservatory at Frankfurt.

Works

incidental music for Shakespeare's The Tempest; cantata (Matthias Claudius) and other choral works; three symphonies (1935–54), Concerto grosso, etc. for orchestra; harpsichord and piano concertos; five string quartets, piano quartet; two violin sonatas, cello sonata; piano music, songs, etc. His Concerto Grosso and second symphony were premiered by Furtwängler.
