Hialeah

City in Dade County, southeast Florida, near the Everglades, 7 mi/12 kmwest of Miami (of which it is now a residential suburb); population (1994 est) 194,000. It has a variety of light manufactures, including clothing, aluminum and electronic products, furniture, plastic goods, building supplies, appliances, transportation equipment, and chemicals. Hialeah Park racetrack (1925) is used for horse racing.

Hialeah was settled in 1910 and incorporated as a city in 1925.
