Hibbard, Howard (1928-1984)

US art historian. He specialized in Renaissance and baroque Italian art and architecture.Hibbard was born in Madison, Wisconsin. He studied at the University of Wisconsin, and at Harvard University, gaining his PhD in 1958. He taught art history primarily at Columbia University beginning in 1966, and worked as editor-in-chief of The Art Bulletin (1961-78).
