Highmore, Joseph (1692–1780)

English artist. He was a portrait painter to King William III. Examples of his work are his portrait of the novelist Samuel Richardson (National Portrait Gallery, London) and the series of 12 illustrative conversation pieces (Tate Gallery, London; Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, England; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia) suggested by Richardson's novel Pamela.
