Hildebrandt, Johann Lucas von (1668–1745)

Italian-born Austrian architect. He trained under Carlo Fontana (1638–1714), the leading baroque architect in late 17th-century Rome, and was successor to Viennese court architect Johann Fischer von Erlach (1656–1723). His baroque masterpiece is the Belvedere, Vienna (1693–1724), which comprises the Upper and Lower Palaces, divided by magnificent gardens.
