Hill, Daniel Harvey

Hill, Daniel Harvey (1821–1889)

American Confederate general and mathematician. During the American Civil War 1861–65, he rose to the rank of lieutenant general in the Confederate army.

Hill graduated from West Point military academy 1842, and was professor of mathematics at Washington College, Lexington, Virginia, 1848–54, and at Davidson College, North Carolina, 1854–59. After the Civil War, he was president of the University of Arkansas 1877–84.
