Himmel, Friedrich Heinrich

Himmel, Friedrich Heinrich (1765–1814)

German harpsichordist, pianist, and composer. He read theology at Halle University, but later under the patronage of Frederick William II of Prussia studied music at Dresden under Johann Naumann and in Italy, where he produced two operas. Appointed court Kapellmeister in Berlin in 1795, he was still able to travel and visited Russia, Scandinavia, Paris, London, and Vienna.
