Hinderwell

Village in North Yorkshire, England, 14 km/9 mi northwest of Whitby and 2 km/1 mi from the sea; population (2001) 2,010. The area is largely agricultural.

The parish church stands on what is traditionally claimed to be the site of a cell of St Hilda, abbess of Whitby (658-80). Cleveland Bay horses are bred in the district around Hinderwell.
