The Kalash people, in the Hindu Kush area of Pakistan. A small non-Muslim tribe, the Kalash claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great, and have their own distinct religion, laws, and culture. Mountain range in central Asia, length 800 km/500 mi, greatest height Tirich Mir, 7,690 m/25,239 ft, in Pakistan. The narrow Khyber Pass (53 km/33 mi long) connects Pakistan with Afghanistan and was used by Babur and other invaders of India. The present road was built by the British in the Afghan Wars (1838–42 and 1878–80).
